Deep Time: Our latest project exploring the combination of AI with crowd intelligence
ArchAI's latest project explores how crowd intelligence can help train the AI, explore large areas and create social impact. The project is led by Dig Ventures and funded by Nesta’s Collective Intelligence Grants programme, to explore how the collaborative power of Crowd Intelligence and Artificial Intelligence can be used to identify archaeology – and involve local people in the process.

ArchAI team wins second place in AI challenge to detect Mayan structures
The ArchAI team won second place of the “Discover the mysteries of the Maya” Challenge. The challenge tasked us to explore the potential of the Sentinel satellite data, in combination with the available LiDAR data, for integrated image segmentation in order to locate and identify “lost” ancient Maya settlements (aguadas, buildings and platforms), hidden under the thick forest canopy.

New UK Space Agency funding for ArchAI
ArchAI is one of 5 projects to receive new funding for innovative space tech to help solve problems on Earth. The funding is provided by the UK Space Agency and delivered through the SPRINT Programme. Our project will be a collaboration with the University of Southampton, specifically Prof. Fraser Sturt from Archaeology and Dr. Jonathon Hare from ECS department. Together with a few of their PhD students we will further the research into rapid creation of training data and further the development of our AI.

Our CEO, Dr. Iris Kramer, is one of only a few individuals to receive the prestigious Royal Academy of Engineering - Enterprise Fellowship award, which provides her with £60,000 of equity-free funding, a bespoke training programme and mentoring from the RAEng.
